Survey Goals and Policies

The ClaimHeader surveys to help build knowledge -- not provide a forum for gathering specific information about other payers. Are surveys are not a tool to learn your competitor's EDI rate.

Surveys (filling them out and getting the results) is a sensitive process. Our goal with the ClaimHeader Surveys is to make it easy to gather and share claims process best practices and benchmarks.

  1. Optional Identifiers. We don't need to know who you are. You can tell us if you want but you do not have to. As you see below, under sharing policy, we have to levels of 'sharing'. In a nutshell, the more you share, the more we share.
  2. Optional Questions. You don't have to answer all the questions. Please, if you don't like a question or don't feel comfortable answering, do not put something 'untrue' simply to answer the question. Remember, GIGO (garbage in, garbage out) applies to survey data.
  3. Results sharing policy. We create two results sets -- one for those who answer all the level 1 and level 2 questions and one for those that just tackle level 1. The level 1 answers are available to everyone, including visitors that did not participate in the survey. Level two answers are shared with the appropriate respondents via email.
  4. Optional 'Contact Me'. In some cases, we can add to the surveys by contacting respondents, if you are open to contact, indicate it on the survey and you will be contacted.

Claim Attachments

17 Year Attachment Trend -- 1990 to 2007 (bar Graph)

According to our surveys and anecdotes the volume of claims with an attachment has dropped. The numbers we have indicate that between 1990 and 2007 claims with attachments have fallen from 1 in 5 claims to 1 in 20.

For 100 Typical Claims: 31 UB-92/facility and 69 HCFA/Professional

Common rule of thumb: By volume 70% of claims are professional (HCFA) and 30% are facilty (UB).
