The ClaimHeader gathers and shares claims process related information. Our current Surveys are below.

Welcome

Welcome to the ClaimHeader survey section. Anyone that has ever watched Family Feud has to enjoy it when Richard Dawson shouts, “Survey saaays…” and then proceeds to tell the audience about some interesting survey. We’re hoping to make it that easy to both share and get access to claims process benchmarks and best practices.

Q2 2007 EDI Survey

The goal of our EDI survey is to gather data and best practices on claim EDI submission rate progress.

EDI is a poster child metric for progress in the claims process. Our experience has been that most carriers have seen their EDI rates rise from approximately 40% to approximately 70% in the past five years.

Q2 2007 COB Survey

The goal of our COB survey is to gather data and best practices on claim Coordination Rates for commercial and non-commercial lines of business.

COB is a pretty complicated component of the claims process. Coordinating payment across more than one payer generally has more manual steps, a higher incidence of accuracy issues, and higher rates of both denials and adjustments. Coordination is not easy. This is our first COB survey -- which means we might see version 2 sometime in 2008 based on what we learn this quarter.

Claim Attachments

17 Year Attachment Trend -- 1990 to 2007 (bar Graph)

According to our surveys and anecdotes the volume of claims with an attachment has dropped. The numbers we have indicate that between 1990 and 2007 claims with attachments have fallen from 1 in 5 claims to 1 in 20.

For 100 Typical Claims: 31 UB-92/facility and 69 HCFA/Professional

Common rule of thumb: By volume 70% of claims are professional (HCFA) and 30% are facilty (UB).
